System Engineer

The System Engineer will maintain IT infrastructure, core operating software, application performance, storage, and connectivity between servers, switches and routers. Main responsibilities are conducting server builds, configuring, optimizing, and fine-tuning operating systems, troubleshooting and resolving system hardware and networking issues as well as additional duties as assigned. This position is part of a motivated team of professionals with focused responsibilities and broad opportunities for technology exposure. The position's responsibilities require independent analyses, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with minimal supervision and pre-established guidelines.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide level 3 support to proprietary applications.
  • Monitor server hardware and software at all times, either through manual or automatic processes.
  • Maintain and support our server, virtualization, Active Directory infrastructures.
  • Support the voice and data network infrastructures.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining system security and for taking proper steps to prevent and detect security breaches.
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems in systematic manner to determine root cause.
  • Research new technical solutions.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively system-related issues to management and the user community.
  • Identify opportunities for better system performance and the elimination of recurring system problems.
  • Determine system benchmarks and quality control standards for software and hardware installations.
  • Assist with designing robust backup schedules and perform restorations.
  • Provide infrastructure support to end-users.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, must be willing to develop the technical skills of other team members whenever possible.
  • On a rotating basis serve as the on-call system administrator responding to critical problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in the field of computer science and/or at least 5 years' experience working as a Systems Engineer is required. You should possess a strong attention to detail and strong problem solving skills to succeed in this role.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience administering servers in domain environment including installing, troubleshooting and configuring DNS, DHCP, IIS, Group Policy, User/Group administration, auditing event logs. MCTS or MCITP Certification a plus.
  • Experience with VMware and vSphere Infrastructure, solid understanding of virtualization concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows 10, Server 2012R2/16/19, Office 365, Exchange
  • Network administration experience (LAN/WAN connectivity, network architecture, network security concepts, firewall administration, remote connectivity (VPN), subnetting, wireless networking, managed switches, QoS, VLANs, TCP/IP concepts).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and/or the willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with network and systems monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based backup methods and tools.
  • SAN technology experience, iscsi and fc knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Azure a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS SQL Server administration and SQL language a plus.
