Payroll Assistant


Summary/objective

The Payroll Assistant will help ensure accurate processing and recording of the company's multi-state payroll and perform data entry and maintenance for isolved's internal human resources team. The role will be responsible for supporting the Payroll Manager in all payroll related activities, such as processing timesheets, updating payroll records, processing bi-weekly payroll, and answering employee questions about payments.


Core Job Duties

  • Assist in processing biweekly or monthly payroll for employees, including data entry, timekeeping, and calculation of wages and deductions.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including changes in salary, benefits, tax withholding, and personal information.
  • Verify timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to hours worked.
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other deductions.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and timely submission of payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local withholding.
  • Generate payroll reports as needed, including year-end reports such as W-2s.
  • Address employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and deductions promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain organized and secure payroll records in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Stay current with federal and state payroll laws and regulations to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Works on assignments that are semi- routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.




Supervision

Normally follows established procedures on routine work, requires instructions only on new assignments. Work may be spot- checked in progress and upon completion.

Typically requires a minimum of 1 - 3 years of related experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suit, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills, with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to flex and adapt to changing business needs
  • Discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Initiative and the desire to own problems from start to finish
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team in a fast paced, changing environment

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of payroll, HRIS, or general HR experience
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices and federal and state payroll-related regulations
  • Experience with HCMS, such as isolved, ADP, Workday, Ceridian
  • CPP or FPC preferred, but not required

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
