Director of Engineering

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), isolved is seeking a Director of Systems Engineering (DSE) to provide the strategic direction, implementation oversight and servicing of systems engineering, program management, and technical support for an industry leading, high-growth company headquartered in Charlotte, NC.

The DSE will direct the strategic & tactical planning, design, testing, deployment, and sustainment of a complex and dynamic portfolio of systems engineering, facilities, and SaaS-based solutions. This position requires an individual with extensive experience in technical programs, technical program management, systems engineering & architecture, strategic innovation, and financial analysis of operational SaaS / Cloud-based solutions. The successful candidate should have excellent communication, leadership, and team skills. The candidate will be responsible for developing a multi-generational plan that defines a strategic vision and value proposition and be accountable to execute and realize that plan in collaboration and support of business, IT, operational partners, and vendor-suppliers.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provides direction to a strategic vision and execution roadmap in collaboration with other business & IT leaders, for networking, hosting, facilities, telecommunications, security, and enterprise infrastructure for on-prem & cloud-based solutions.
  • Monitors changes or advancements in technology that enable value-add to the company through competitive advantage and/or expense management.
  • Direct experience implementing secure, hybrid infrastructures using Azure services and components including both technical capabilities and cost analysis of various Microsoft PaaS licensing models.
  • Takes stakeholder feedback to make informed decisions that identify alternatives and facilitates processes to select solutions that achieve future state vision.
  • Continuously evolves the systems, platforms, and infrastructure across the company.
  • Analyzes cost / benefit for engineering related investments & strategies and advises senior management on options and opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Manages a team of systems engineers and drives outcomes with maximum business & operational value in collaboration with key business & IT stakeholders.
  • Leads the planning, analysis and execution of initiatives that rationalize expense and improve infrastructure and operational efficiencies & effectiveness across the enterprise.
  • Is accountable to business & IT partners to deliver programs and projects with excellence in servicing, support, and execution.
  • Builds best-in-class organizational capabilities that are based on best-practices, standards, and sustainable processes.
  • Establishes performance and operational metrics that targets continuous improvements in achieving business defined goals & objectives.
  • Establishes governance & oversight for clear reporting of metrics and drive stakeholder collaboration on future vision, operational goal setting and investment strategies.
  • Assess program design, vendor solutions and current-state viability from a technical perspective and identify ways to continuously improve and influence positive outcomes.
  • Be knowledgeable of ITIL and NIST frameworks and provide meaningful engagement across IT, Operational and Business partners leveraging these frameworks.
  • Coordinate vendor-supplier activities as well as contractor, sub-contractor, and vendor oversight efforts throughout the system engineering life cycle.
  • Perform and oversee concept of operations development, requirements definition, analysis and design, system architecting, validation and verification, systems integration, system & operational performance analysis, lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision management, and configuration management.
  • Provide leadership advice on acquisition strategies, program oversight, technical / engineering recommendations, messaging to key stakeholders and communications to employees.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required and advanced degrees preferred.
  • 15+ years of technical program management, systems engineering, acquisition & financial management and oversight
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations and perform problem/issue resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, build consensus, facilitate working sessions, and negotiate solutions and alternatives.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced engineering, hosting, cloud, cybersecurity and infrastructure concepts and strong operating principles of data communications, information systems hardware and software, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to resolve conflicting business & technology requirements via fact-based analysis and resolutions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and as a self-directed senior leader.
  • Ability to work professionally and independently on assigned tasks and to complete assignments in a timely manner with great attention to detail.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with corporate c-level, vendors, and all levels of staff.
  • Experience in influencing and implementing industry best practice across engineering organization, including ITIL / ITSM, NIST and AGILE / SCRUM frameworks
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Has the ability to liaise with multiple business and technology departments and possesses ability to understand on communicate business disciplines and concepts (Cost / Benefit, Budgeting, etc.)

Location: This position will be based in the USA (office or remote) and will require minimal travel.

Duration: This is a full time, permanent position.
