Job Description

The isolved Benefits Manager is accountable for managing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, retirement plans, etc.), with the goal of creating an attractive and competitive benefits program. You will continually investigate new benefits programs, improve existing programs, and supervise and monitor benefits administration, while also providing excellent customer services to our employees.


Core Job Duties

  • Evaluate and modify existing benefits programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Design, recommend, and implement new benefits programs; examine possible plan design and benefits cost changes.
  • In collaboration with benefit brokers, negotiate with vendors and administrators for best plans, options, and rates.
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  • Provide customer service support to internal customers (employees) and develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes; evaluate for opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations including timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing including, but not limited to new enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships, and compliance testing.
  • Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database, update employee payroll records, and coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums, and administration.
  • Manage the monthly invoice reconciliation and payment process in coordination with accounting.
  • Allocate group health and dental claims monthly and review quarterly.
  • Perform regular plan audits to assess accuracy and performance.
  • Monitor industry trends; complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results.
  • Monitor administrative costs of benefits programs and recommend cost containment strategies,
  • Manage annual open enrollment, including scheduling and leading employee meetings, drafting, and sending employee communication, answering questions or inquiries, and transmitting enrollment data to vendors or administrators.
  • Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment, and summary plan descriptions. Provide training and support to human resources staff.
  • Provide support on escalated matters regarding leaves of absence administration.
  • Manage the administration of our company retirement plan, to include handling enrollments, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships, disclosure notice distribution, annual audit, and compliance testing.
  • Coordinate employee education meetings and communication regarding our retirement plan.
  • Serve as primary contact for our 401(k) broker.
  • Manages support needs related to mergers & acquisitions
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of related benefit administration experience supporting >1000 employee groups.
  • 2+ years of related experience administering domestic federal and state employees leaves of absence
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HCM and benefits databases.
  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on proposals (RFPs).
  • Knowledge of benefits contract language.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
